Nueva aplicación, new application. Crowdfunding campaign |
|

We have launched a crowdfunding campaign: ‘JustFoldIt, a new BOINC tool to promote research in biomedicine’ .
In order to carry out the study, and given the restrictions on expenses that exist in the scientific field today, we have launched the first crowdfunding campaign to raise 3500 euros in 60 days. If the amount is not reached within the 60 days, the money will be returned to donors and the project will not go ahead.

Finished the Wiki |
Over the last week we worked hard to finish our wiki for the iGEM competition. Take a look at it, although we started late, we are totally happy with the result.
On our wiki we describe the results of our experiments and this is basis of the judgement in the competetion.
If you are interested in the details, who iGEM@home is related to our whole project visit our pages on the software details and citizen science.
I'm sorry that for the last week we couldn't spend 100% of our energy for you, but now we back on track and will take that there is always enough work for everyone ;)
Furthermore we want to thank everyone who participate in the survey, it gave us really valuable feedback for the future of the project. Especially all the people who were asking for checkpoints clarified, that this is definitely the feature that we should tackle next. So stay tuned for updates on this issue.
Best,
Constantin

deleted spammers |
To deal with the spam accounts, I went through and deleted every account with 0 credit, no wildlife@home activity, no team, and no attached computers. This ended up being a whopping 72599 spam accounts. I apologize if I deleted your account and you're not a spammer, but due to the massive amount of accounts I had no choice but to bring a sledgehammer to the problem. I did do a database back up, so if I wrongly deleted your account and you want it restored you can either send me an email and I'll restore it (or just make a new one since you had no credit or activity anyways).
On a positive note, it looks like the measures I took yesterday has stopped the flood of spam accounts, so hopefully we're in the clear for awhile!

[dna] started another new run 'test_hg19_1000fa_2' |
|
The problem with the work unit info should be fixed for this largest sized run as well. Let me know how it's crunching.
|
|
[dna] badge size fixed |
|
The DNA badges were size 512x512 and being downsized to 28x28 on the webpages. I've fixed this so now that they're 32x32 pixels.

[wildlife] updated watch and review video pages to bootstrap 3 |
|
Took some time but it looks like everything is bootstrap 3 now! Have one tweak to make with the CSS, but other than that it should be working.

First experimental data set is submitted |
| We submitted a series of workunits (4096 wus). Each Wu runs local search for 32 times. So in total 131072 local
searches are expected. The precision was set to 0.00001. 10 free parameters for Tersoff potential are fitted. |

Second experimental data set is submitted |
We submitted a new series of workunits (12289 wus). Each Wu runs local search for 32 times. So in total 131072 local searches are expected. The precision was set to 0.00001. 10 free parameters for Tersoff potential are
fitted.

New application is deployed! |
| OPTIMA@home now hosts new application aimed at fitting parameters of the Tersoff potential. Molecular dynamics (MD) is often used for modeling various properties of crystals. The essence of this method consists in the numerical solution of the differential equations describing motion of atoms in the crystal lattice to determine the steady state. For molecular-dynamic computations, you must know the potential - a function that determines the interaction energy of atoms in the lattice. Modern potentials used in the simulations contain several parameters. Specific parameter values determine what concrete material is modeled. For example, for silicon, this will be one set, for diamond another etc.
The project is aimed at fitting parameter values of the potential in order to achieve known material properties (energy of the lattice cell, the components of the elastic modulus etc.). Then this potential will be used for molecular dynamics simulation. To identify potential parameters we solve the problem of minimizing the variance of the values of the properties obtained by using the potential from known values. This task is to generate a large sequence of initial approximations, from which further methods local search is a (local) minimum. Next, from the obtained values we select tuples with objective values less than the specified precision.

updates to SubsetSum@Home |
|
Hi Everyone,
I'm currently working on updating the home page of SubsetSum@Home to be in line with the other Citizen Science Grid projects. I'm going to start working on updating the application this weekend, so hopefully we'll see SubsetSum@Home back up and running in a week or so!
On another note, please make an account on Citizen Science Grid (all the new work units will be sent out from there). And use those forums, as these will be going away soon!

DNA@Home daemons officially shut down |
|
I've officially shut down the boinc dameons here for good. If you want more DNA@home work units, please create an account and attach to Citizen Science Grid.
|
|
DNA@Home boinc daemons being shut down, moved to Citizen Science Grid |
|
Hi Everyone,
I'll be shutting the DNA@Home daemons down finally in two hours, as they will be up and running over at Citizen Science Grid. Please submit and unfinished work units as after the daemons here are shut down it will not be possible to upload results and get credit. You can detach from DNA@Home, and attach to Citizen Science Grid to get all future DNA@Home work units, and link your DNA@Home account on CSG so it can continue to gain credit.

New DNA@Home front page |
|
As part of the project unification, I've made a new home page for DNA@Home. Hope everyone likes it. The carousel up top is a little messed up as the images sizes aren't great - but I'll be getting some new cool images of the biology labs and things like that in a day or two, which should make it look better.

linking citizen science grid to SubsetSum@Home account now available |
|
I've created a page for linking your DNA@Home and SubsetSum@Home accounts here:
http://volunteer.cs.und.edu/csg/link_accounts.php
Your accounts need to have the same email address on here and the account you wish to link to. After you've linked accounts, any credit you generate for DNA@Home or SubsetSum@Home work units will be added to the project on those accounts. If you don't have an account there, your account here will be used to generate credit there.
From here on out, all the work units for Wildlife@Home, SubsetSum@Home and DNA@Home will be generated using the Citizen Science Grid scheduler, so you'll need to add it to BOINC manager: http://volunteer.cs.und.edu/csg
Let me know if you have any problems!

Updated the Citizen Science Grid forums for SubsetSum@Home |
|
I've made some updates to the Citizen Science Grid forums, adding new ones for DNA@Home and SubsetSum@Home. I've also made some progress on the Citizen Science Grid home page here:
http://volunteer.cs.und.edu/csg/
Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions! Still under construction but at least you can get an idea of the look and feel for the new site once I get everything unified. I'll be shutting down these forums in a couple days, so please make an account over on wildlife@home so you can post over there.
