| The project app has some problems, so I'll stop the project until a new fixed app is released. |

Project closed |
| During the last two years, the project has made some big steps forward. However, it seems that every step forward has lead two steps backward. The list of things that need to be done has grown immense during this time. Ongoing technical problems combined with organizational and personal reasons have left only one conclusion: To close the project. It's currently completly unsure if or when the project may be continued (in whatever way). Please detach your clients from the project. The domain is going to stay alife at least for a while but forums will be closed soon. Sorry for the bad news. This was the only remaining option. It was a hard decision but it had to be made. |

Status Update - Oct 14, 2008 |
|
We have simulated over 250 billion neurons to date. We have released two Mac versions of the application, with JediRock's help. We have made some progress in regards to data visualization, which is needed in order to display neurons and visualize single spikes and spike trains.
There have been some recent developments in regards to releasing a GPU version, participation at a summit and submission of a technical paper to a journal; we received a couple of invitations for these items.
Over the next couple of months, we will be able to advance more rapidly with the application development.

200 Billion Neurons - Sep 16, 2008 |
|
We have simulated over 200 billion neurons to date. The computing goal is to reach 500 billion neurons.
We have implemented the alphabet into the system, by loading the character set from the Knowledge Acquisition
module. As soon as the initial version of the neuronal generator is up, we are looking forward to start loading words,
then sentences and then complex information.
We have started implementing the basis of the future neuronal system, by writing API's, and building libraries and applications.
We are nearing completion of the file addressing system. With M. and Jord's help we moved forward with subversion, the source
code control aplication. With Serg's help we developed CRC32 functions for data protection during transmissions from one machine to another.

Project server offline |
| Due to some heavy problems with the power supply (a faulty fuse caused strong voltage fluctuations), the project server is offline for almost a week now. It's currently unsure when the power supply gets restored and if server hardware or mysql tables got damaged during the interferences. More news will follow as soon as possible. |

Back in civilisation (for a while) |
| As you have probably noticed, APS slipped back down the priority
list fairly quickly after returning from Canada. The first expedition
to Borneo did not go quite as well as we had hoped, and I have just
returned from a second trip out there this year as part of the same
project.
Although I will be in the UK for some time (the next trip isn't
scheduled until October now), I cannot promise that the project will
immediately begin churning out work. There is a lot of other work to
catch up on, so I will do my best, but no more.
As always, we appreciate your help here, but I'd like to draw
everyone's attention to the FAQ again as an explanation for the low
work rate at the moment. |
